THE RACING RUNWAY

In excess of 75 historic racing cars and motorcycles will be providing high-octane motorsport action throughout the weekend.

The real stars of this era will speed along the ‘Racing Runway’ in a glittering array of two and four wheeled machinery – there will be racing fun for everyone.

In previous years, the inaugural event saw a varied grid of pre-war to Formula 1 single seaters, sports cars and saloons participating in a demonstration run on the Racing Runway.

Sywell Aerodrome’s mile-long main runway, with its smooth surface and high grip concrete, was transformed into a demonstration circuit with a right hand bend, long straight with midway chicane and 180 degree hairpin before a flying finish.

Entries are now being taken from historic racers wishing to drive on the ‘Racing Runway’ at this year’s Sywell Classic: Pistons and Props. Those wishing to express their interest need to apply to the organisers who will then review the applications and offer free invitations to create a diverse racing spectacular for enthusiasts to enjoy.

Each car taking part in the demonstration, which is run in accordance with MSA requirements relating to sprints and hill climbs, gets two runs per session, with two sessions per day. There is also evening refreshments and entertainment.
